Rapper Waka Flocka Flame has made a surprising about-face, openly endorsing Donald Trump’s prospective 2024 presidential campaign. On Monday, the artist, known for his 2010 debut album “Flockaveli,” took to Twitter to express his support for the former president, posting a succinct “TRUMP2024”.
Accompanying this tweet was a photograph featuring Waka Flocka Flame and Donald Trump standing side by side in front of a presidential seal. This image subsequently became his new profile picture. While it remains unclear whether the two actually met or if the photo was digitally manipulated, the message conveyed is resounding.
Waka Flocka Flame’s recent endorsement stands in stark contrast to his previous disavowal of the former president. During Donald Trump’s initial presidential campaign in 2015, the rapper posted a succinct “Fuck Donald J. Trump” on Twitter. In a SiriusXM interview during the same period, he elaborated on his stance, stating, “I’m not voting for Donald Trump because he’s for money. In a time like this, we need somebody that’s for the people, and Trump is definitely not for the people.”
The rapper’s stance appeared to intensify in 2017 when he performed in Athens, Georgia. At the show, Waka Flocka Flame noticed a fan holding up a jersey bearing the word “Trump” on it. Initially, he seemed relatively accepting of the political attire, encouraging the fan to hold it up further and expressing, “I fuck with the Trump jersey.”
However, the rapper took an abrupt turn, grabbing the jersey and pulling down his pants before wiping his exposed buttocks with the garment. This action left no room for doubt about his sentiments regarding the then-President.
Yet, in a surprising turn of events, Waka Flocka Flame’s disposition evolved a few years later, particularly concerning his humanitarian efforts. In 2021, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award, a recognition signed into action by the Trump administration shortly before Trump left office in January of that year. The award acknowledged the artist’s voluntary contributions to the Chicago non-profit organization Daughter of Destiny. During the presentation, Pastor Apostle Dr. Bridget Outlaw presented the award to Waka Flocka Flame, fitting the medal around his neck.
In response, the rapper stated, “I just want to thank President Trump for recognizing me. I wanna thank Bridget and just everyone who loves me with enough love to do everything that I’ve wanted to do that was generous.” This abrupt shift in Waka Flocka Flame’s political views has caught the attention of many, sparking debates and discussions among both fans and critics alike.
