In a forthcoming memoir titled “The Woman In Me,” Britney Spears reflects on a challenging decision she made back in 2000, revealing that she underwent an abortion during her relationship with Justin Timberlake. The singer, aged 41, who dated Timberlake, aged 42, from 1999 to 2002, delves into the “agonizing” choice to terminate her pregnancy, which occurred in late 2000 when they were both 19 years old.
According to excerpts obtained by People, Spears expresses her strong desire to have a family with Timberlake but notes that he was not prepared for the responsibilities of parenthood and believed they were too young to become parents.
Spears writes, “It was a surprise, but for me, it wasn’t a tragedy. I loved Justin so much. I always expected us to have a family together one day. This would just be much earlier than I’d anticipated. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives, that we were way too young. I’m sure people will hate me for this, but I agreed not to have the baby.”
She acknowledges that she’s uncertain whether it was the right decision and reveals that, if the choice had been hers alone, she might not have proceeded with the abortion. However, Timberlake’s conviction in not wanting to become a father led her to agree to it.
The memoir, set for release on October 24, also alludes to Spears being raised “not to get an abortion” due to religious beliefs and family teachings.
This revelation comes at a time when Timberlake is reportedly “concerned” about what the upcoming memoir might reveal about their past relationship. A source stated that Timberlake is “very curious” about what Spears will disclose about their time together.
It’s important to note that a publishing insider has denied any intentions of the book being a “takedown” of anyone, emphasizing that it’s an opportunity for Britney Spears to share her empowering story.
