Court Grants Seizure of Soulja Boy’s Property to Settle $472k Debt to Ex-Girlfriend

Published:

In a recent legal development, a judge has authorized the seizure of rapper Soulja Boy’s property to settle a $472,000 debt he owes to his ex-girlfriend, Kayla Myers. This debt stems from a lawsuit in which Myers was awarded $236,000 in punitive damages and an additional $236,000 in damages after accusing Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, of assaulting her during a 2019 house party.

Initially, Soulja Boy sought to overturn the $236,000 punitive damages, arguing that the ruling was excessive. He also claimed that he lacked the means to pay his ex-girlfriend. In response, Myers requested that the Los Angeles Police Department be permitted to enter Soulja Boy’s residence and seize his property to satisfy the debt.

A judge has granted Myers’ request, with the condition that all cash in excess of $1,000 can be seized from Soulja Boy’s home.

Myers had previously asserted that Soulja Boy kept substantial amounts of cash, usually stored in backpacks, in his home. She also noted his ownership of several exotic cars, including a Lamborghini, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, and a Dodge Charger Hellcat, as well as valuable jewelry and chains. Additionally, she claimed that Soulja Boy had undisclosed jewels and chains not revealed during his testimony.

Soulja Boy’s legal team argued that he primarily earned income through marketing products such as cologne and sneakers, and his earnings from these sources were uncertain. However, he did disclose potential earnings of up to $50,000 for concert bookings, before expenses. He also revealed that he rented a home for $25,000 per month.

Myers suggested that Soulja Boy could quickly settle the judgment by liquidating his Lamborghini and Bentley, allowing him to retain his Mercedes-Benz and Dodge Hellcat, along with his other valuable assets.

Soulja Boy’s motion to have the punitive damages overturned was denied, with the judge emphasizing his capacity to earn money and advising him to adjust his spending habits to align with his entertainer lifestyle.

Myers had originally filed the lawsuit against Soulja Boy for alleged kidnapping and pistol-whipping during their relationship. According to the civil suit, the rapper forcibly held her against her will for several hours and subjected her to abuse. She eventually escaped and reported the incident to authorities.
