Dame Dash Responds to Irv Gotti’s Claims About Roc-A-Fella’s Success

Published:

Damon Dash, also known as Dame Dash, has addressed recent comments made by Irv Gotti concerning his role in the success of Roc-A-Fella Records. In a recent interview on The CEO Show, Dame Dash responded to Gotti’s assertion that JAY-Z was the driving force behind the label’s achievements during its peak.

Dame Dash began by expressing his concern for Irv Gotti’s mental health, emphasizing their close relationship as brothers in the industry. He pointed out Gotti’s approach to celebrating success, which involves taking his artists’ masters and selling them to generate income. Dash made it clear that such a strategy is the opposite of his own philosophy. He believes in empowering artists both creatively and economically, aiming for their financial independence. According to Dash, rich and empowered creatives like Kanye West and JAY-Z are the result of this approach, often becoming billionaires.

Irv Gotti had made waves last month with comments suggesting that Dame Dash played a minor role in Roc-A-Fella’s success during its prime. In a recent interview on Drink Champs, Gotti further delved into the dissolution of Roc-A-Fella Records, shedding light on the relationship between JAY-Z and Dame Dash.

When asked about rumors of Dash being “removed” from JAY-Z’s The Book of HOV library exhibit, Gotti responded that he wasn’t sure but speculated that Jay might not be fond of Dame. He acknowledged Dame’s role in co-founding Roc-A-Fella with Jay and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, emphasizing that Dash should receive credit for that. However, when it came to the creative aspects of making records, Gotti asserted that JAY-Z was the driving force, from selecting beats to rapping and creating music. According to Gotti, Dame Dash was “along for the ride” during Roc-A-Fella’s great journey.

The exchange highlights the ongoing discourse around the dynamics of Roc-A-Fella Records and the roles played by its co-founders, sparking conversations among hip-hop enthusiasts and industry insiders alike.
