In Toronto, Drake appeared to take a playful jab at Schoolboy Q following the cancellation of the TDE rapper’s show at History, a venue co-owned by Drake and Live Nation. Schoolboy Q had announced the cancellation just a day before the scheduled performance, citing reasons beyond his control.
Drake, known as the 6 God, posted a mirror selfie on Instagram wearing blue slides, a possible nod to Schoolboy Q’s recent song. He also sported a “Free Yayo” t-shirt, reminiscent of Eminem’s attire at the 2003 Grammy Awards when the G-Unit rapper was incarcerated.
The speculation around the cancellation escalated when Tony Yayo, in an interview, hinted at potential repercussions for those who crossed Drake in Canada. Schoolboy Q himself hinted at the rivalry between Drake and his former TDE labelmate as the reason for the canceled show.
Despite Schoolboy Q’s strong words on social media, he later clarified that he was not threatening violence but rather emphasizing that tough talk could lead to harmful consequences. He reassured fans that he was not looking for trouble and even humorously referred to himself as a “soccer dad.”
While the venue has remained silent on the cancellation, extreme weather conditions in Toronto, including flooding and power outages, may have played a role. Even Drake’s luxurious mansion, “The Embassy,” was not spared from the effects of the floods, drawing a reaction from his onetime friend turned rival, Rick Ross.
The playful banter between Drake and Schoolboy Q sparked speculation, denials, and a glimpse into the dynamics of the hip-hop scene.
