Gunplay Loses Custody of Newborn Daughter Amid Domestic Abuse Allegations

Published:

Rapper Gunplay, known for his role on “Love and Hip Hop Miami” and affiliation with MMG (Maybach Music Group), has faced further repercussions stemming from a domestic abuse incident. In August, Gunplay was arrested for allegedly pointing a gun at his wife while she was holding their infant daughter. The aftermath of this incident has resulted in the rapper losing custody of his newborn daughter.

The decision regarding Gunplay’s custody was finalized in court on a recent Monday. This decision, which grants sole custody to Gunplay’s estranged wife Vonshae Taylor-Morales, can only be reversed if she requests that the court return custody to the rapper. Given the tumultuous nature of their relationship and the alarming events leading to their separation, such a request appears unlikely at present.

As a consequence of the custody ruling, Gunplay is only allowed virtual visitation with his daughter through an app called TalkingParents. Furthermore, these virtual visits must be scheduled and monitored by the court, ensuring a degree of oversight in the interactions between the rapper and his child. In addition to the custody matter, Vonshae is reportedly seeking child support from Gunplay. The specific amount of child support he will be required to pay will be determined during a subsequent court hearing.

Gunplay’s legal issues extend beyond custody and child support. He has missed three prior hearings related to a temporary restraining order (TRO) that Vonshae currently holds against him. Failure to attend the next hearing could result in the TRO becoming permanent, effectively prohibiting Gunplay from having contact with his daughter until she reaches the age of 18.

The initial incident in August, which led to Gunplay’s arrest, involved charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and child abuse. Law enforcement was called to the couple’s home during a highly charged altercation. Subsequently, Vonshae accused Gunplay of transmitting a genetic heart defect to their daughter, a claim that suggests the depth of their ongoing dispute. This episode of their lives is expected to play out in the current season of “Love & Hip Hop: Miami.”

The legal ramifications of this domestic dispute, along with the custody loss and child support request, underscore the serious consequences that can arise from such incidents. Gunplay’s case serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing domestic issues with care and responsibility to avoid lasting legal repercussions.
