Drake, Nicki Minaj, Cardi B, and other notable figures in the music industry have come together to celebrate the long-awaited release of dancehall legend Vybz Kartel from prison. After spending 13 years behind bars, Kartel was welcomed home with open arms following the overturning of his murder conviction by Jamaica’s Court of Appeals.
Drake, a known fan of Kartel, expressed his joy by sharing a selfie wearing a T-shirt featuring the dancehall icon and proclaiming, “BOSS FREE UP NOW! Adidjaaaaaaa.” Cardi B also joined in the excitement, posting a video of herself listening to Kartel’s music and welcoming him home to the world.
Busta Rhymes, DJ Khaled, and other collaborators of Kartel shared their elation on social media, emphasizing the significance of his return. Even Vybz Kartel himself shared his celebration on Instagram, showcasing a video of him partying with his wife in a limo.
The journey to freedom was not an easy one for Kartel, as his initial conviction in 2014 was later overturned due to juror misconduct. Throughout his time in prison, Kartel faced serious health challenges, with his attorney highlighting the life-threatening nature of his condition and the inadequate medical attention he received.
Despite the hardships, Vybz Kartel’s release has brought joy and relief to fans and peers alike, marking a triumphant moment in his tumultuous journey.
