Legal Battle Advances: LA Reid’s Attempt to Dismiss Sexual Assault Lawsuit Fails

Published:

A legal battle involving former Arista Records head LA Reid and music producer Drew Dixon has taken a significant turn as a New York judge ruled against Reid’s attempts to dismiss a sixual assault case filed by Dixon.

Judge Valerie Caproni’s decision on Tuesday denied Reid’s motions to dismiss the lawsuit, allowing Dixon’s claims to proceed. Dixon accused Reid of sixually assaulting her on two occasions approximately 20 years ago during her tenure at Arista Records. The lawsuit brought forward allegations of sixual battery and assault, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and a violation of the New York City Gender Motivated Violence Act.

Reid had filed motions seeking dismissal of certain claims based on the statute of limitations and venue issues. However, Judge Caproni ruled in favor of Dixon, stating that the claims of false imprisonment and intentional infliction of emotional distress were not time-barred under the New York Adult Survivors Act. This act enables survivors of sixual assault to pursue legal action even if the statutes of limitations have expired. Additionally, the judge noted that the events outlined in the complaint had a substantial connection to the Southern District of New York, where the lawsuit was filed.

As the legal proceedings continue, the ruling signifies a significant development in Dixon’s pursuit of justice and accountability in her allegations against LA Reid.
