Will Smith’s Protective Stance on Jada Pinkett Smith – The Tommy Davidson Episode

Published:

In an illuminating episode of Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, comedian Tommy Davidson shared a fascinating story about a heated encounter he had with superstar Will Smith. The incident revolved around an unplanned on-screen kiss between Davidson and Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, during the making of the 1998 romantic comedy, “Woo”.

Davidson explained the scenario, revealing that he hadn’t discussed the final scene’s kiss with Jada Pinkett Smith in advance. Unbeknownst to Davidson, this spontaneous smooch would lead to an intense confrontation with Smith himself.

Recalling the incident, Davidson described how Will Smith stormed into his trailer and confronted him. Smith, standing over Davidson, expressed his displeasure, saying, “I don’t appreciate that, man.” Davidson, quick on his feet, played it cool, inquiring about what was bothering Smith. This exchange, where Smith was physically intimidating due to his towering posture, had Davidson maintaining a calm demeanor while assessing the situation.

Davidson further explained, “And since he was standing and I was sitting, I was a real nice fella. That’s about physics.” However, Smith’s anger was palpable, with biting lip actions hinting at potential confrontational intentions.

Amid Jada’s calls for Smith to calm down, Davidson inquired what the problem was, with Smith repeatedly saying, “You know what’s up.” Feeling the tension rising, Davidson suggested they step outside to address the matter in private, given the presence of onlookers. Jada Pinkett Smith joined the exchange, urging them to discuss the issue. It was a tense moment, defused by moving the conversation out of the public eye.

Will Smith’s protectiveness over his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, is not a new revelation. The Oscars incident in 2022, where Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock for making a joke about Jada, is another example of his readiness to defend his spouse.

Jada Pinkett Smith herself recently shared insights into her past relationship with Chris Rock, offering new context for the Oscars slap. She explained that during past summers, rumors of her and Will’s divorce would frequently circulate. One particular summer, Rock mistakenly believed their marriage was ending and asked her out, to which Jada clarified that these were mere rumors. The misunderstanding led to a profuse apology from Rock.

As Jada Pinkett Smith prepares for the release of her book, “Worthy,” on October 17, readers can anticipate deeper insights into her personal life, including her relationship with Will Smith and the lead-up to the unforgettable Oscars moment. The book promises to shed light on their marriage’s rocky journey, providing a glimpse into the complexities of their enduring love story.
