YOUNG THUG’S LAWYER CHALLENGES RICO CHARGES BASED ON STATUE OF LIMITAIONS

Published:

In a legal move aimed at Young Thug’s ongoing RICO case, his lawyer has filed a motion seeking the dismissal of RICO charges against the rapper and all co-defendants associated with YSL (Young Stoner Life) due to the statute of limitations. The motion, filed by attorney Brian Steel, argues that the accusations exceed the time limit for a state RICO charge and should be expunged from the indictment.

According to court documents obtained by XXL, the motion contends that to prove RICO conspiracy, the prosecution must establish that at least one overt act was committed within the statute of limitations. The motion argues that overt acts numbered 1 through about 61 occurred more than five years before the indictment was filed, rendering them outside the statute of limitations. Therefore, the motion asserts that these acts cannot support a conviction for Young Thug or any of the accused.

The motion further argues that any overt act dated before approximately May 2017 should be considered other crime evidence and is prejudicial to Young Thug. The inclusion of such acts is deemed to be in violation of the applicable statute of limitations and lacking probative value, thus warranting their removal from the indictment.

While it remains uncertain whether the judge will accept the motion to dismiss the RICO charges, the update arrives amid the ongoing jury selection process, which has been marked by delays and challenges for Young Thug. The rapper experienced a medical emergency during a court appearance in May, leading to a temporary halt in proceedings.

In the midst of legal proceedings, Young Thug surprised fans with the release of his new album, “Business is Business.” The album features collaborations with notable artists such as Drake, Future, 21 Savage, Travis Scott, and Lil Uzi Vert. Additionally, a revamped version curated by Metro Boomin was released, including two new bonus tracks featuring Nicki Minaj and Juice WRLD titled “Money.”
