Joey Akan, founder of Afrobeats Intelligence, shared his fond memories of the artist and their last meeting. He remembered, “Last time I saw Mohbad, we were in an apartment, a recording camp working on song selection for his last EP. Man gave me a weird sweet red wine, and we had a little good-natured argument over the final songs to make the project and the length of the EP. Rest in peace, man.”
Mohbad was known for his distinctive baritone voice and had a string of popular tracks to his name, including “Ask About Me,” “Pariwo,” and “Peace.”
Born in June 1996, Mohbad was formerly signed to Naira Marley’s Marlian Records until his departure from the label in 2022. He leaves behind his wife, Wunmi, and their son, as the music world mourns the loss of this young talent.
