In an interview with Teen Vogue, she expressed no regrets about her actions, explaining that her father’s conduct negatively affected her mental health. Aoki, along with her mother Kimora Lee Simmons, had taken to social media in June to voice their concerns about Russell Simmons.
Russell Simmons, a music mogul, faced allegations of sexual misconduct from at least 15 women in late 2017, which significantly impacted his career. Aoki shared text messages and screenshots of her interactions with her father, revealing their strained relationship. She disclosed that he had been “awful” to her for years, leading to anxiety issues.
Aoki emphasized that Russell Simmons has not been well for years and needs help, though he refuses to acknowledge it. She highlighted instances of his aggressive behavior, including threats, harassment, and attempts to silence criticism.
Kimora Lee Simmons also joined her daughter in publicly addressing Russell Simmons’ conduct, expressing concerns about her children’s safety and well-being.
Aoki received support from a celebrity who had experienced a similar situation at a young age, reassuring her that her actions were justified. However, she declined to comment on the sexual misconduct allegations against her father, out of consideration for all parties involved.
