The revelation came during his farewell tour’s concluding show in Puerto Rico, where emotional concertgoers gained insight into the rapper’s decision to step away from the limelight. Born Ramón Rodríguez, Daddy Yankee shared a heartfelt message with the packed venue, revealing a newfound focus on faith and a desire to live a life with purpose.
In a poignant speech delivered in Spanish, the 46-year-old artist expressed, “My people, this day for me is the most important day of my life. And I want to share it with you because living a life of success is not the same as living a life with purpose.” The announcement marks a significant shift for Daddy Yankee, who has been a prominent figure in the reggaeton genre since 1994, gaining widespread recognition with the 2004 hit “Gasolina”.
Daddy Yankee’s impact on the music industry is undeniable, boasting a career adorned with over 158 awards from 530 nominations and approximately 30 million records sold.
