Deion Sanders Undergoes Further Surgery for Blood Clots, Remains Committed to Colorado Coaching Debut

Published:

In a recent update on his health, Deion Sanders, the first-year coach for the Colorado Buffaloes, announced that he will be undergoing additional surgeries to address blood clot complications in his right leg and to straighten his toes on his left foot. The announcement comes just a month after he underwent a previous surgery for a blood clot in his leg.

Sanders, who has struggled with blood clot issues in the past, underwent the amputation of two toes on his left foot in 2021. Unfortunately, his left foot has been causing discomfort due to two toes that have been giving him trouble inside his shoe.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, Sanders expressed his determination to return to coaching in time for the team’s fall camp, stating, “I promise you that when we go to TCU, I’m running out in front of our team. I’ve got some great doctors on hand.” He also expressed gratitude to well-wishers while dismissing any rumors of his toes growing back, with a sense of humor.

However, due to the upcoming surgery, Sanders will miss the Pac-12 media day, which is scheduled for Friday in Las Vegas. The university has assured fans that Sanders is expected to make a fast recovery and will be back on campus soon.

Defensive coordinator Charles Kelly will be representing the Buffaloes at the media day, alongside Sanders’ son and quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, and standout player Travis Hunter. Hunter, who transferred from Jackson State, has already earned a spot on the preseason All-Pac-12 first team for his performance as a defensive back and on special teams.

Sanders’ hiring as the coach in December brought hope to Colorado, a team that struggled with a disappointing 1-11 season in 2022. Despite the setbacks, Sanders remains dedicated to turning the team around and making a triumphant debut with the Buffaloes on September 2nd.

As Sanders undergoes further surgeries to address his health concerns, the Colorado community and fans worldwide send their well wishes for a speedy recovery, eagerly awaiting his return to the field.
