Former NFL Player Sergio Brown Arrested in California, Facing First-Degree Murder Charge in Mother’s Death

Published:

Former NFL defensive back, Sergio Brown, has been arrested in Southern California in connection to his mother’s death in Illinois almost four weeks ago. According to jail records, he was booked into a San Diego jail following a warrant issued in Illinois related to the September death of his mother, Myrtle Brown.

Authorities recently located Sergio in Mexico and deported him after discovering the outstanding warrant. He is expected to be transported to Illinois soon to face charges related to the case.

After Myrtle’s death, Sergio had been seen partying in Mexico and even posted a video where he rambled about her passing and “fake news.”

While the investigation into Myrtle’s death has been mostly silent, officials in Illinois had categorized her passing as a homicide due to apparent assault injuries found on her body.

Sergio, a former Notre Dame star, played in the NFL from 2010 to 2016, starting 15 games during his career.
