During a recent interview about her upcoming memoir “Worthy,” Jada Pinkett Smith disclosed that comedian Chris Rock once asked her out on a date during a period when divorce rumors surrounded her marriage with Will Smith. In an interview with People, Jada recounted how Chris had assumed she and Will were splitting up and expressed interest in taking her out. Jada clarified that these rumors were false, and Chris promptly apologized.
Jada also acknowledged that she hasn’t spoken to Chris since the 2022 Oscars incident, where Will slapped Chris after a joke about Jada’s bald head. Jada expressed her hope for clearing up misunderstandings and achieving peace regarding the situation.
The 2016 Oscars became controversial due to the lack of diversity among nominees, leading to the emergence of the #OscarsSoWhite movement. Jada boycotted the Oscars and called for Chris to step down as the host. During the ceremony, Chris made a joke about her, and tensions arose.
Jada admitted that she should have reached out to Chris and clarified her intentions during the 2016 incident. Although apologies were exchanged shortly after, they hadn’t spoken until the 2022 Oscars fiasco, where Chris attempted to apologize again.
Jada concluded that she is not here to judge how people express themselves, as it comes with the territory of being in the spotlight.
In the same interview, Jada revealed that she and Will have been secretly separated for the last seven years, still working on defining the future of their marriage. Despite considering divorce, she made a promise never to give her husband a reason for divorce. Jada acknowledged that they currently live separately and are actively working on their relationship.
Jada praised her children, Jaden, Willow, and Trey, for their support during this challenging time in her marriage.
