In a stunning revelation, Jada Pinkett Smith has disclosed that she and her husband, Will Smith, have been living separately for the past seven years. The couple, who originally tied the knot in 1997, is currently navigating the future of their marriage.
During an interview with People, the 52-year-old actress shared this shocking update about her relationship. Furthermore, she delved into more details about their situation in a conversation with NBC News.
Speaking on the Today Show with Hoda Kotb, Jada elaborated on the breakdown of her marriage to 55-year-old Will, explaining, “By the time we got to 2016, we were just exhausted with trying. I think we were both still stuck in our fantasy of what we thought the other person should be.”
Jada considered pursuing a legal divorce but found herself unable to follow through with it. She affirmed her commitment to preserving their marriage, stating, “I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through whatever. And I just haven’t been able to break that promise.”
In her conversation with People, Jada revealed that the couple had been living apart when an incident occurred at the 2022 Oscars, where her husband confronted comedian Chris Rock over a joke about her hairstyle.
Jada emphasized that no permanent decisions have been reached regarding the future of their marriage, underscoring that they are still in the process of “figuring it out.” She shared, “We’ve been doing some really heavy-duty work together. We just have deep love for each other, and we are going to figure out what that looks like”.
