Jamie Foxx Mourns the Loss of Django Unchained Co-Star Keith Jefferson

Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx announced on Thursday the passing of his dear friend and co-star, Keith Jefferson, at the age of 53. Jefferson, known for his roles in films such as “Django Unchained” and “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood,” had been battling cancer.

Jamie Foxx, a close friend and colleague, paid a heartfelt tribute to Jefferson on his Instagram page, where he has over 17 million followers. Alongside a poignant photo of the two together, Foxx expressed the depth of his grief, saying, “Everything hurts right now.” He confessed to struggling as he looked through old pictures, reliving cherished memories, and added, “NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO SEE THE WORDS ABOUT MY FRIEND RIP @keith.jefferson,” accompanied by several red broken heart emojis.

Foxx, who had known Jefferson since their college days, described him as an incredible soul and sent his condolences, saying, “God rest.” He also shared another image of himself with Jefferson in a hospital chair, conveying the pain he felt: “This one hurts. Keith, you’ve been nothing but absolute grace. Your whole life, your heart is pure, your love is immeasurable—you were an amazing soul.” Foxx acknowledged that healing would take time and concluded with a poignant farewell, “Goodbye, my friend. I love you.”

Before his passing, Keith Jefferson had kept his cancer diagnosis private. However, he eventually shared his journey on Instagram, noting that his faith had grown stronger. He expressed gratitude for his loving family and friends, specifically mentioning Jamie Foxx, and encouraged his followers with the message, “Remember…’Faith is the last thing you can lose”.

Throughout his career, Keith Jefferson contributed to several notable films, including Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood. Beyond acting, he worked as an acting coach, sharing his talent and passion with others. In a final tribute to his memory, Keith Jefferson’s last role will be in Jamie Foxx’s upcoming movie, “The Burial,” set to hit theaters on October 6 and then become available on Prime Video the following week.

Keith Jefferson’s positive outlook and dedication to his faith shone through his Instagram posts. At the beginning of 2023, he wrote, “In 2023 I will continue to let my talent shine and let whatever spark I am able to produce be considered a blessing towards my next opportunity.” His passing leaves a void in the entertainment world, and he will be remembered for his immense talent and unwavering spirit.
