TV personality Jeannie Mai, who recently made headlines due to her divorce from rapper Jeezy, has finally spoken out about the situation. News of their separation became viral on social media last month (September 2023) after Jeezy filed for divorce, ending their two-year marriage. Court documents revealed that the marriage was “irretrievably broken” with “no hope for reconciliation.”
On October 13, Jeannie took to her Instagram to (seemingly) share an update on how she’s coping with her new life post-divorce. The “Emmy” winner posted a photo of a handwritten note that read, “Sometimes, you need to take a break and disconnect, to heal.”
Jeannie’s openness continued during an interview with ET while promoting her new game show, “Raid the Cage,” with actor and comedian Damon Wayans Jr. When asked how she was managing during this challenging period, she replied, “I’m taking it day by day, and thankfully being able to have a show like this and be able to do something that you enjoy doing takes your mind off things. I’m just focusing on Monaco and focusing on things that I’m passionate about. When you’re surrounded by people, you just get to laugh and look at things that you enjoy doing in life”.
While official details about the cause of their separation have not been disclosed, a close source mentioned that the couple had differing views and unmet needs. Although Jeezy has maintained silence since filing for divorce, he’s been seen wearing his wedding ring, and there have been rumors that the two still reside together in their Georgia home. Despite the split, both Mai and Jeezy are committed to co-parenting and ensuring the well-being of their beloved daughter, Monaco.
During a recent appearance on Sherri Shepherd’s daytime show, Mai was asked about her coping strategies for the separation from the Atlanta rapper. Her response was profound: “If you give God your pain, he’ll give you his power.” She emphasized how her one-year-old daughter, Monaco, has become her guiding star during this challenging time.
“Monaco? That is my North Star. And I can definitely tell you that I don’t know if I would handle this the same way without her. Because today, I’m able to look at her, and I can say, ‘What would I advise you? If you were in my shoes?’ And it changes everything. So I’m so thankful to be a mom, and I’m thankful to have her.” While speculation has swirled about cultural differences playing a role in their surprising separation, neither Jeannie Mai nor Jeezy has confirmed these stories. For now, Mai is focusing on her work and the joys of motherhood as she navigates this new chapter in her life.
