Former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star NeNe Leakes is currently embroiled in a legal dispute concerning unpaid rent for her now-shuttered Swagg boutique. NeNe Leakes’ former landlord has sought a default judgment against the reality television personality for failing to address the lawsuit despite being served with legal documentation.
Court documents, recently obtained by RadarOnline.com, reveal that the legal battle revolves around a company called MPG-Sugarloaf, which sued Leakes for rent arrears connected to her once-operational Swagg Boutique, situated at Sugarloaf Mills in Lawrenceville, Georgia. According to the landlord’s claims in these legal filings, Leakes initially signed a lease agreement for the property in 2017. In 2021, she extended this lease for an additional year. However, the reality star vacated the property in January 2022, failing to settle the unpaid rent amounting to $22,900.
Despite being alerted to her financial obligations, Leakes reportedly did not respond to the warnings. As a result, the landlord is now requesting that the court grant a default judgment for the total rent owed, which amounts to $22,900.75. The request also includes attorney fees of $2,315 and additional court costs of $416.
NeNe Leakes, widely known for her catchphrase “I’m rich, b*tch,” is currently grappling with legal issues related to the unpaid rent from her former boutique venture, Swagg. This legal battle stems from allegations of unpaid rent, which originated from the landlord of her now-closed fashion boutique. Court documents reveal that Leakes initially signed a lease for the property in 2017, and later, in 2021, extended the lease for an additional year. However, upon vacating the premises in January 2022, she left behind an outstanding rent balance of $22,900.
While it’s evident that NeNe was made aware of her financial obligations, she chose to disregard the warnings, leading to a precarious legal situation. Court proceedings indicate that a group named MPG-Sugarloaf is taking NeNe Leakes to court over the unpaid rent. Despite her silence on the matter with her landlord, she has addressed her fans regarding the claims.
In an Instagram comment, NeNe highlighted, “Gregg [Leakes] signed the lease, not me! He ain’t here.” Since her exit from the “Real Housewives of Atlanta,” NeNe Leakes has encountered a series of legal challenges related to her business ventures and unpaid obligations, showing that even reality TV stars are not immune to financial disputes and legal consequences.
