Rapper Offset, part of the popular hip-hop group Migos, is facing a lawsuit for his alleged involvement in an assault that occurred at ComplexCon nearly two years ago. The lawsuit was filed by a security guard named Daveon Clark, who claimed that Offset, alongside fellow rapper YRN Murk, assaulted him during the event. Offset and YRN Murk now face charges related to assault, battery, infliction of emotional distress, and negligence.
The incident in question reportedly unfolded on November 7, 2021, at ComplexCon, an immersive festival held in Long Beach, California. ComplexCon is renowned for bringing together influential brands and artists within pop culture for a weekend of entertainment.
According to the lawsuit filed by Daveon Clark, he was working as a private security guard at the event. While executing his duties, he was instructed not to allow additional guests into the festival. Allegedly, YRN Murk was among those denied entry and subsequently spat on Clark. When some individuals attempted to intervene and separate YRN Murk from Clark, the security guard asserted that YRN Murk punched him.
According to Clark’s account, Offset then approached him and struck him, contributing to the escalating altercation. The lawsuit further alleges that another unidentified man subsequently punched Clark, while his fellow security guards did not adequately intervene or de-escalate the situation. The aftermath of the alleged assault left Daveon Clark with significant physical injuries, medical expenses, and emotional distress. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages, including compensation for lost earnings, diminished income-earning capacity, and other special damages.
Offset responded to the reports of his involvement in the altercation by releasing a statement. He denied engaging in a fight at ComplexCon and asserted that he had intervened to break up a fight initiated by the booth’s security team. Offset emphasized his presence at ComplexCon to support emerging brands and designers, declaring a commitment to focusing on the positive aspects of the event and culture.
The lawsuit serves as a legal challenge to determine the accountability and consequences surrounding the alleged assault at ComplexCon, underlining the importance of resolving such incidents through the legal process.
