Oprah Winfrey has clarified that there is no tension between her and Taraji P. Henson, putting an end to weeks of speculation about a possible feud. The clarification comes after Henson, during the press tour for “The Color Purple,” which Winfrey produced, openly discussed issues of pay disparity and the challenges she faced on set.
Winfrey set the record straight during the Golden Globes red carpet event, emphasizing her full support for Henson in all aspects of her career. Responding to online speculation, Winfrey stated, “Taraji will tell you herself that I’ve been the greatest champion of this film. Championing not only the behind-the-scenes production but also everything that everybody needed.”
Addressing concerns about her involvement in on-set matters, Winfrey explained that she would step in whenever she heard about a problem to alleviate any issues. She also clarified that there is no validity to the rumors of a feud between her and Henson.
In December, Henson expressed frustration about pay disparity in Hollywood during a SiriusXM interview. She highlighted the challenges faced by Black female actors in negotiating salaries and discussed the additional financial burdens that come with success.
Following Henson’s remarks, online speculation linked her comments to a potential rift with Winfrey, who had simultaneously gone viral for appearing to dismiss a photo-op with Henson during the press tour. However, Henson addressed the rumors on Instagram before the release of “The Color Purple,” emphasizing the unwavering support she received from Winfrey.
Winfrey’s recent statement aims to put an end to the speculations and reaffirm the positive relationship between her and Henson.
