Tory Lanez Receives 10-Year Prison Sentence in Megan Thee Stallion Shooting Case

Published:

In a significant development, Tory Lanez has been officially sentenced to 10 years of incarceration in connection with the shooting case involving Megan Thee Stallion.

Live-tweeting from the courtroom on Tuesday (August 8), Law & Crime reporter Meghann Cuniff confirmed the outcome for the Toronto artist.

“Breaking: Tory Lanez has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Megan Thee Stallion,” she stated. Tory Lanez took the opportunity to address the court for several minutes. He expressed his ongoing care for Megan Thee Stallion, referring to her as “someone I still care for dearly to this day,” regardless of any animosity she may hold against him. He emphasized their friendship, mentioning the shared loss of their mothers.

“We both lost our mothers. We would sit there and drink, and drink until we got numb,” Tory Lanez said, reflecting on his bond with Megan Thee Stallion. Regarding the shooting incident, he acknowledged, “I said some very immature things that I shouldn’t have said. I revealed some secrets I shouldn’t have revealed,” Lanez admitted.

The prosecution had initially sought a 13-year sentence, while Tory’s legal team requested a lesser term of three years, pending their plea for probation and entry into a residential substance abuse program, should those options be denied.

The sentencing process unfolded over two days within a Los Angeles courtroom. On Monday (August 7), a powerful written statement from Megan Thee Stallion was read aloud by District Attorney Kathy Ta.

In the statement, Megan vehemently criticized Tory Lanez for perpetuating false narratives surrounding the shooting incident, which resulted in her sustaining bullet fragments in both feet. She condemned his attempts to make light of her “trauma” through subsequent music releases, asserting that she has “not experienced a single day of peace” since the event.

“He not only shot me, he made a mockery of my trauma,” Megan wrote, according to Cuniff. “He tried to position himself as a victim and set out to destroy my character and my soul.”

Megan further accused Tory of spreading lies, paying bloggers to spread misinformation about the case on social media, and releasing music and videos to tarnish her reputation and perpetuate his own narrative.

Additionally, Megan responded to Tory’s attempts to attribute the incident to childhood trauma and alcoholism, strategies that his legal team had used in an effort to secure probation and enrollment in a drug treatment program.

“At first, he tried to deny the shooting ever happened. Then, he attempted to place the blame on my former best friend,” she continued. “In his tantrum of lies, he’s blamed the system, blamed the press and, as of late, he’s using his childhood trauma to shield himself and avoid culpability.”

Megan emphasized Tory’s lack of remorse and expressed her desire for his sentence to serve as a message of justice for all women who have experienced violence.

“For once, the defendant must be forced to face the full consequences of his heinous actions and face justice,” she wrote.

During the proceedings, Herriford, the presiding judge, highlighted Lanez’s post-shooting behavior, including social media posts and harassment directed at Megan, as significant factors aggravating his sentence.
