Tory Lanez’s Lawyers Seek Probation and Substance Abuse Program Placement After Megan Thee Stallion Shooting

Published:

Tory Lanez’s legal team is making efforts to secure their client’s release on probation and enrollment into a drug treatment program as he faces sentencing next week for the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion.

In a 41-page memo filed by his attorneys, Jose Baez and Ed Welbourn, they argue that Tory was grappling with alcoholism at the time of the alleged shooting, which should reduce his culpability. The memo provides insight into Tory’s traumatic childhood, marked by violence, abuse, grief, and neglect, which contributed to his alcohol issues.

The filing acknowledges that Tory Lanez is “presumptively ineligible for probation” due to the severity of the case, but they contend that it is an unusual circumstance where justice would be best served if probation is granted. Should probation be denied, his lawyers ask for the lower term of three years in prison, citing Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón’s policies.

Previously, the prosecution recommended a 13-year prison sentence, pointing out Tory’s alleged callousness and indifference for human life. They also mentioned his online behavior, which they claim re-traumatized the victim and emboldened his followers.

The sentencing is scheduled for Monday, August 7, where Tory Lanez will learn his fate at the downtown Los Angeles criminal courthouse.
