Tyler Perry Expands His Creative Ventures with Netflix

Published:

Tyler Perry, the renowned filmmaker and media mogul, has entered into a new multi-year first-look deal with Netflix, signaling a commitment to write, direct, and produce new projects exclusively for the streaming platform. This exciting creative partnership comes on the heels of Perry’s November 2022 agreement with Amazon Studios to produce four features for Prime Video.

Perry’s collaboration with Netflix has been notable in recent years, with projects such as “Six Triple Eight” and “Mea Culpa.” “Six Triple Eight,” executive produced by Kerry Washington and featuring a star-studded ensemble, tells the inspiring true story of the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color stationed overseas during World War II. Meanwhile, “Mea Culpa” stars Kelly Rowland and Trevante Rhodes and explores the narrative of a criminal defense attorney defending an artist accused of murdering his girlfriend.

Tyler Perry’s association with Netflix has produced past successes, including the critically acclaimed “A Jazzman’s Blues,” a tale of forbidden love that recently won the Humanitas Prize and premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Additionally, the 12th installment of the immensely popular Madea franchise, “A Madea Homecoming,” showcased Perry’s multifaceted talents as he took on multiple roles within the film. Notably, the thriller “A Fall from Grace,” starring Crystal Fox, added to the list of Perry’s accomplishments on Netflix.

Audiences can anticipate an upcoming project, “Maxine’s Baby: The Tyler Perry Story,” which delves into Perry’s personal journey. Directed by Gelila Bekele and Armani Ortiz for Amazon Studios and Bekele Films, the documentary will make its world premiere as the centerpiece film at AFI Fest on October 27 at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

Tyler Perry’s dynamic career continues to evolve, with WME and Johnson Shapiro Slewett & Kole representing the multi-talented artist.
